From Tech Lawyer to Boardroom Leader: Linn Alfredsson's Journey with LEIA Health

Linn Alfredsson; board member and tech lawyer.

Linn Alfredsson, a member of the 23/24 cohort of deb., has secured a board position at LEIA, where she helps guide their leadership team in data management strategy and product packaging for both B2B and B2C customers. We are thrilled about this success story and believe Linn will be a significant asset to LEIA’s development. We eagerly look forward to witnessing her impact.

Linn has graciously answered some questions to share insights into her journey and new responsibilities. Enjoy!

Q: Give us a short introduction to yourself?

I am a tech lawyer by training but a startup nerd at heart. Originally a travel junkie from Gothenburg that settled down in the vibrant city of Stockholm. I am an extrovert and known as a queen of networking, currently just stepping out of maternity leave and building my own consulting firm in law and technology.

Q: Tell us more about LEIA.

LEIA Health is a startup digitising the parental journey, offering personalised support at a time when parents need it the most. Accelerating parental health equity through companies, their Parental Leave Solution supports employees' health and postpartum recovery while also digitalising the Parental Leave Process to ensure an inclusive and personalised re-boarding back to work.

LEIA focuses on parents' (mainly womens) health both during and after the parental leave. I used the app myself during my postpartum period and loved the product.

Q: What is your primary contribution to their boards?

My primary contribution in the LEIA board has been guiding the leadership team in their data management strategy and how to package their product for both B2B and B2C customers in this context. Further, I believe it is important to be a sounding board for founders as many of the issues or hurdles initially may not be connected to my specific expertise, but rather general considerations in the particular industry or growth journey.

Q: What is the best part of being on a board?

The best part of being on a board is the opportunity to make a significant impact on the direction and success of an organization. As a board member, you have a strategic role, contributing to major decisions that shape the company's future. You get to collaborate with a diverse group of experienced professionals, which can be incredibly enriching and educational. This role allows me to leverage my skills and expertise to guide the organization, influence its culture, and drive its mission, potentially leading to substantial positive changes within the company and its broader ecosystem. It's a position that offers a unique blend of challenge, influence, and the satisfaction of contributing to meaningful outcomes.

My main goal for all my board positions is to contribute with both commercial and legal expertise, as well as being a trusted advisor for the founders.

Q: What change do you want to make by sitting on future board assignments?

My aim for future board assignments is to leverage my legal knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit to drive change within organizations. I plan to focus on promoting innovation, ensuring governance, and enhancing stakeholder value through commercial strategy and proactive engagement, aiming to position the companies as leaders in their respective industries.

Additionally, with new AI regulations coming up, I believe this is an area that will challenge boards to think outside the box and truly dive deeper into governance and data management. Having a clear AI strategy will be essential for both upcoming and established companies, this is a strategic question for any board member today.

Q: Name one thing you take with you from the deb. program?

The community of women. I have met so many incredible women in this program. They have been an amazing support in my professional journey to recent board assignments. The confidence they have given me throughout the program is truly one of a kind. Sharing their knowledge, mistakes, wins and leveraging each other's networks. I could not have done this without them.

Q: Finally, share your favorite professional tip.

Be yourself and trust your gut feeling. Simple as that. Remember you are in the board position because they have chosen YOU. Second, Surround yourself with people that inspire you.

We are so happy to have you as a part of our community Linn!  💜
